Welcome

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Barre?
Barre is a low-impact, ballet-inspired workout that blends ballet technique, Pilates and functional strength training. Classes focus on posture, alignment, core strength and controlled movement to build long, lean strength safely and effectively.
Do I need dance experience?
Not at all. Classes are designed for all levels. Whether you’re completely new to movement or returning to dance after many years, you’ll be guided clearly and supported throughout.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, fitted activewear that allows you to move freely. Grip socks are recommended for mat-based classes. Ballet shoes are optional for ballet technique classes.
What should I bring?
-
Water bottle
-
Small towel (optional)
-
Grip socks (recommended for mat/barre fitness classes)
All equipment is provided unless otherwise stated.
How do I book?
All classes must be booked online in advance via the Book Online page on our website. Spaces are limited to maintain a boutique class experience.
What is your cancellation policy?
Classes are transferable but not refundable.
-
Cancellations with more than 48 hours’ notice may be transferred to another class (subject to availability).
-
Cancellations within 48 hours are non-transferable and non-refundable.
This policy supports small class sizes and studio sustainability.
Can I join mid-block?
Yes — if space allows. However, we recommend committing to the full block for the best results and progression.
I have an injury / I’m pregnant — can I still attend?
If you have an injury, medical condition or are pregnant, please consult your GP or healthcare provider before attending. Please inform us of any injuries before class so appropriate modifications can be offered.
How often should I attend?
For best results, 1–3 classes per week is ideal. Consistency is key — intelligent, regular movement supports long-term wellbeing.
Is the studio suitable for beginners over 40?
Absolutely. Barre supports posture, joint stability, core strength and alignment, making it an excellent choice for adults seeking low-impact training with long-term benefits.
Where are classes held?

Studio Etiquette
Thank you for helping us keep the studio calm, focused and supportive.
Arrive on time
Please arrive 5–10 minutes before class begins. Late arrivals can disrupt the flow of class and the concentration of others. For safety and courtesy, entry may not be permitted once class has started.
Phones off
Please switch phones to silent and store them away during class. This is your time to disconnect and focus fully on your movement.
Respect the space
Please treat the studio, equipment and fellow participants with care. Return any equipment neatly after use and leave the space as you found it.
Hygiene and comfort
Please arrive in clean workout attire and avoid strong perfumes. Grip socks are recommended for hygiene and safety in mat-based classes.
Listen to your body
This is a non-competitive environment. Work at your own pace, take rest when needed, and let the instructor know if you need modifications.
Cancellations and commitment
Small class sizes are intentional. If you can’t attend, please cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice so another client may take your place.
Shared atmosphere
The Barre Studio by Joyce is a calm, adult-focused environment centred on intelligent movement. We ask that conversations remain respectful and the studio is treated as a space for focus, restoration and strength.
